Tervis Tumblers
In nineteen forty six two engineers, Frank Cotter and Howlett Davis, out of Detroit Michigan, invented the
insulated tumblers. They took two pieces of glass and put air in between the glasses and sealed them so the air
would not come out. Of course it is more complex than that but that is the jest of it. They had made the tumbler
but could not come up with a good name for it. Then they thought why not use the three last letters of each of
their names. Tervis tumblers were then born and the rest is history.
In the beginning there was only one size of the Tervis tumblers, cylindrical and tall. Then the shape was
redesigned in the early nineteen fifties. They continually refined and improved the tumbler until it is what it is
today. They offer now ice buckets and six different sizes of tumblers. The durability and the quality remains one
of the highest known today. Original designs wraps, color and licensed artwork is used on the Tervis tumblers. So
there is a set or one out there for everyone.
Tervis tumblers are still family owned and operated. In the nineteen fifties the Winslow family bought the
rights to the tumblers. It was then incorporated in nineteen sixty seven. It is a private entity and the company is
in Venice Florida. You can find Tervis tumblers in many department stores throughout the country.
The best part about Tervis tumblers is probably the use of the highest grade of polycarbonate, appearing to look
like glass. They are an indestructible tumbler as well as durable and practical. They come with a guarantee, for
any reason the tumbler becomes defective, they can be returned and the company will replace them. When you
buy the Tervis tumblers they actually come with a good telephone number so you can call them if there is a
problem.
You may find artwork on some of the Tervis tumblers. It is sealed inside the glass, not on a piece of plastic
inserted. The artwork is like looking into space and they just float around. Some people will tell you the artwork
looks almost like it was embroidered. It cannot be seen how the artwork is done or how it is put in there.
The Tervis tumblers are freezer, dishwasher and microwave safe. Prices vary depending on how much artwork is
involved or not.
As of late Tervis as add a few different items to their line of tumblers. There are now straws, lids, toppers
and a sip lid. The travel lids are great to take that coffee on the road with you. Tervis tumblers plus the other
items are great to take on a picnic or to store in the refrigerator. You will certainly thank Tervis for making
that little tumbler for the toddlers with the sip lid, no more spills on that carpet.
Tervis tumblers have amazing designs and logos. These are good for football, soccer or even baseball teams.
These can even been given as gifts maybe with a couples’ anniversary date or picture. And if it does say Tervis on
the bottom, it is not a Tervis tumbler.
